Sound Advice in Times of Crisis

Do you know what sound advice is

When you’re in a time of crisis

That entices you with vices?

In a world with threats like ISIS,

Do you know how thin the ice is?

Some folks, like Balaam, bop along,

In spirit weak but in flesh strong.

Inside his mind, he played ping-pong,

Excusing things he knew were wrong,

While grooving to the bad boys’ song.

Have you experienced a crisis

That entices you with vices?

If you know how thin the ice is

In a world with threats like ISIS,

Can you tell what sound advice is?

Are many crises worse than ISIS?

Maybe falling through thin ice is,

If it causes you to freeze

And numbs your soul down to its knees,

Hard as pride that seeks to please.

When Pharaoh’s whip begins to crack

And you perceive a fresh attack

That strikes you as a fiery dart,

What sound advice would you impart

To those condemned in mind and heart?

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

“A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.” Proverbs 29:23

“The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25

As the first Psalm teaches,

“Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he meditates day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he does shall prosper… For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
