Doubting Doctor, What’s Wrong With Me?

(a rhyming poem about a doubting doctor and his patients)

Patient: Doubting Doctor, what’s wrong with me?

Doctor: Looks like you fell and scraped your knee.

Put on this bandage and you’ll be okay.

Then, come and see me again someday.

Onlookers: Oh yeah. Doubting Doctor, oh yeah.

Just have the Doubting doctor fix it.

Then you’ll feel all right, oh yeah.

Patient: Doubting Doctor, I’m feeling blue.

Doctor: That’s because you’ve got the flu,

But you’ll be fine once you swallow these pills,

Because they’ll cure you of all your ills.

Onlookers: Oh yeah. Doubting Doctor, oh yeah.

He trusts himself to fix it.

Then she’ll be all right, oh yeah.

Patient: Doctor, I got stung by a bee.

Doctor: Don’t you dare pass out on me.

Here’s a shot to make you well.

Hurry, quick, before you swell.

Onlookers: Oh yeah. Doubting Doctor, oh yeah.

By your own wisdom you will fix it.

Then he’ll be all right, oh yeah.

Patient: Doubting Doctor, the bleeding won’t stop.

Doctor: Sorry, can’t help you. Nurse, grab a mop.

Get that leg off my clean floor.

Pay your bill as you exit the door.

Onlookers: Oh no, this doubting doctor said “No.”

He has no faith. Therefore he told the injured man to go.

He won’t help him even though the poor guy hurts from head to toe.

Patient: Doubting Doctor, what’s wrong with me?

Doctor:  I fear that you have leprosy.

So, quarantine is your only goal,

Because I won’t touch you with a ten-foot pole,

Onlookers: Oh my, that doubting doctor is sly.

Because he brushed this man off,

So on his help we can’t rely.

Messenger:  A brand new doctor just came to town.

People have been following him for miles around.

He heals the sick and raises the dead.

Why don’t you go to him instead?

Onlookers:   Oh yeah. Brand new doctor, oh yeah.

Once you see the Great Physician,

You will be all right, oh yeah.

Patient:  He says he knows what’s wrong with me:

It’s sin in my life and He can set me free.

The name of Jesus is a powerful thing.

He gave me a brand-new song to sing.

Oh yeah, Jesus healed me, oh yeah.

You’ve just got to believe Him

And you’ll be all right, oh yeah.

I’m so glad that I met him today,

Because up until then, I was wasting away.

Then He said, “All you need is faith in me.”

Now my ears can hear and my eyes can see.

Oh yeah. Jesus healed me, oh yeah.

You’ve just got to believe Him

And you’ll be all right, oh yeah.
